$300 Spent Before 11AM

It wasn’t even 11am and I had already spent $300. On what you ask? Groceries, electronics, clothes? No – the Vet. I spent $300 on a visit to the vet’s office. 2 of my dog’s (B and D), needed to be seen and it was time for them to get Heartguard pills and Frontline for flea treatment. D is so big now that he has to take 2 heart pills instead of one. Which means that I’m actually paying for 3 different “sizes” of pills. Why does D have to be an enormous dog? Seeing him as a puppy, I couldn’t have dreamed how big he would become. He weights 121 pounds!! That’s crazy. If he sprawls out on the bed, he takes up half of it! If he get any bigger, he’ll need his own darn bed! I love my dogs, but had I known what it all would cost, I don’t know if I would have had 2 big dogs and 1 little dog. Don’t get me wrong I love my doggies, more than my own life at times, but dang talk about expensive.

Reducing Spending – DIY

There have been two ways lately that I’ve decided to help reduce my spending. One – we make our own laundry detergent. This one helps a lot. There are some that don’t like the idea of making their own detergent and that’s fine. But this has saved us some money, especially since the reciepe we use fills a 10 gal. pickle bucket and lasts a while. Two – I’ve started making my own dog treats from a receipe book my mother bought me. So far I’ve tried three of the receipes. The cost of making these treats is significantly less than what it costs me to buy pre-made treats. I think I’m going to start making Sunday my treat-baking day. And then freeze some of them. Later in the week I will post the receipes I’ve used. Then I’ll continue to try the rest of the receipes and post them.

Pets = Expensive

I love my dogs. I love them a lot. They are probably the closest I will ever get to having kids. But, boy are they expensive. My oldest dog, but yet my newest dog, just had to be spade. When we took her to get a wellness check-up just after adopting her, the vet said he thought she was spade. Well turns out she wasn’t. She went into heat & proceeded to bleed all over my white pin-striped bed sheets. I was not happy. So we got her spade. Since she was already going to be unconscious, I asked the vet to also clean her teeth because that girl has some funky breath. Little did I realize that it was going to cost a small fortune. I gave my mom a check already written out to the vet so she could pay them when she went to pick up my little lady. Later after work, she gave me the bill. $187.20 OMG!!!! Did they use gold thread to stitch her up? That’s absolutely crazy!! And now, she’ll have to go back to have the stitches removed, in which case, I’m sure they’re going to charge me for that visit too!! Jeez!!! Why do things have to cost so much?

Thankfully, although the economy & the markets have not been well, my company is still as strong as ever. I’ve actually been getting over-time, which is much needed since I’m the one answering the phone when people are freaking out about their 401k’s. Today actually wasn’t nearly as bad as Monday or Tuesday or any day last week. Hopefully the market will start to straighten itself out, but only time will tell.

On another note…. Food prices haven’t gone up just for people, they’ve also gone up for pets as well. I’m going to have to start making more dog treats from scratch rather then buying them.

I think I might be going to a movie with my mother & sister Saturday night, so I should set $20.00 aside. Also, as always, I need more fuel in my vehicle. I’ll have to set another $40.00 aside for that. I will also need to set aside some money for dog food & treats. My dogs eat like they never get fed. I really need to put them on a diet.

Day Off #1

Today is the first day off I’ve had since the Fourth of July weekend. I’ve worked everything single day since then. Wow! I work a lot. Sometimes it seems never-ending. I know I work way too much. Eventually I’m going to burn out & probably lose my mind. That’s why I applied for 2 other jobs within my company. Both of them pay more than my current position. Both are in another city approximately 2 & 1/2 hours from home, which means I’d be moving. And that means I wouldn’t have to work at the convience store anymore. Yay! I’d rather work 5-day weeks only. 7 days a week is exhausting.

Anyway to start my day off, I got up & went to a cardio gym class with my mom. It was a great class. Wore me out, but I know I worked hard & burned lots of calories! Then we went to visit my sister at work. She’s in retail & hates it. Her company doesn’t really care about their employees. I told her she needs to find a new job. After our visit, mom & I headed back home. I’ve been home ever since. I wanted to go to Barnes & Noble, but I knew that if I went I’d end up buying several books. I love books. I really want to buy the Twilight books so when I watch the movie in December, I’ll know the storyline behind it. I saw the trailer again for Twilight. It looks so good. Another thing I’m looking forward to is the new series TruBlood that will be airing on HBO in September. I love vampire stories. Can you tell?

It’s just so very nice to have a little time to myself. For about 3 hours, I was home all alone. Just me & my dogs. It’s days like this that make me realize how much I’m glad I’m not dating anyone. I work too much & when I’m not working, I’d rather be alone to relax. I think I’m going to finish the book I’m currently reading, maybe go on a bike ride, & then watch the Notebook on TV tonight. A nice quiet night at home is just what I need. So far today I haven’t spent any money. Go me!

Nothing Special

I don’t have anything special to talk about today. So I’ll just recap my day. This morning I got up & let the dogs out like I normally do. It always takes me a long time to get up & get going. I tend to move really slow in the morning. After 30 minutes or so, I managed to leave the house & head for the gym. Worked out for 30-40 minutes, then showered, changed & went to work. I ended up away from my desk for a good portion of the day. First I was job shadowing another position in another department. It was a good experience & helps me understand more of the company. Plus the lady I shadowed was really nice. After that, I went to our monthly 2 & 1/2 hour meeting.

In my position, we have goals we have to meet each month in order to help drive us to better our customer service skills. I met 6 out of 6 goals & was given a $10 Target gift card. I’m happy to have earned it. I’ll use it to pay for my dogs’ chewies. Another good thing is that I received a $1.20 referral check from GreenPhone.com. This $1.20 will go to my regular savings account. It’s not much, but it’s more than what I had before.
